Students with certain specific talents may want to enrol in Singapore’s specialised independent schools; these include the NUS High School of Mathematics and Science, the Singapore Sports School and the School of the Arts Singapore.
The NUS High School of Mathematics and Science is an independent high school with a curriculum that offers accelerated science and mathematics. These disciplines are integrated in a modular system with humanities, language, arts, co-curricular activities and sports. The school is recognised by renowned overseas universities such as Oxford, Harvard and Yale and the Imperial College (London).
The Singapore Sports School provides a balanced academic and training environment for young athletes. As its modular curriculum is close to that of mainstream schools, these athletes reap the benefits of building up their sports potential without compromising their studies.
The Sports School has nurtured some of the top athletes in Singapore. They have represented the nation internationally and won awards in the Commonwealth Games, SEA Games and other major sports arenas.
The School of the Arts, which opened in 2008, offers artistically talented youths aged between 13 and 18 a dynamic curriculum that enables them to develop both their artistic and academic potential, and nurtures Singapore’s future generation of creative professionals.
